Dr. Gopinath Odayammadath Chandroth (Gopi) is an ex chief engineer from the Merchant Navy (DMET 1974-78 batch). He has a Masters degree in Software Engineering and a PhD in machinery condition monitoring. After a year's stint as a Software Systems Manager, he spent 3 years at the University of Sheffield conducting research in to machinery condition monitoring while simultaneously completing his PhD in 1999.
From 2000 to 2005, Gopi worked for Lloyd's Register (London) where he was in charge of machinery condition monitoring and Manager of the Integrated Condition Monitoring Service. In March 2005, he joined SeaTec U.K. Ltd as Director Condition Monitoring, where he set up the PACT (Protecting Assets with Condition Monitoring Technology) suite of services. He now works for the U.K. Government (Department for Transport) as Inspector of Marine Accidents.
Gopi has published over 20 conference and journal papers and has given several invited lectures on machinery condition monitoring.
